Design incorporating traditional elements

Four centuries ago, Nijo Street was a street lined with herbalists’ and scent-makers’ shops. One of these, Shoeido, founded in 1705, provided hints for the hotel’s design touches, from guest room and floor numbering to guest room keys. The design theme derives from an amusement based on the art of appreciating the scent of Japanese incense, where players arrange sticks of incense in various patterns, depending on which sticks out of five they believe smell alike.
